2007-08 Scholarship Application

The deadline to apply for scholarship applications is  Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 3:30 pm.

The following scholarships are available through the Noble County Community Foundation.  By 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 all application information (except financial information due by Monday, March 10, 2008 for certain scholarships listed on page 6) must be to:

 Arthur A. & Hazel S. Auer Scholarship: For East Noble seniors preparing to enter a 4-year bachelor's program at an accredited college or university. Must have a GPA of 3.7 or above. Pays around $500 per semester in each of the first two years.

 Builders Association of Northeast Indiana Scholarship: A $500 one-time payment for a senior at a Noble County high school planning on a construction-related degree. Applicants must be in good scholastic standing and be good citizens of the school and community.

Kris Campbell "Any Dream Will Do" Scholarship: A $500 one-time payment for a northeast Indiana high school senior who meets one or both of the following criteria: 1) has been active in his or her high school drama club for at least two years and is preparing to pursue any sort of post-secondary education. 2) has excelled in high school English and will pursue an English or teaching major in college. Preference will be given to applicants from Prairie Heights High School.

Fred & Rose Cunningham Memorial Scholarship: A one-time award of $500 for a West Noble High School senior who will pursue post-high-school education in the field of art or agriculture.

 Delta Theta Tau Sorority IOTA IOTA Chapter Scholarship in memory of Tammi Riecke: For an East Noble High School senior who has worked to promote the advancement of philanthropy and charity for the community. Extra essay required.

 Charles & Bernard Duesler Scholarship: For Central Noble seniors or graduates who will be or are attending Purdue University, with preference to those entering the agriculture, consumer and health services, veterinary, nursing or pharmacy fields. One-time payment of $2,500.

 Kathleen June Earley Memorial Scholarship: For an East Noble High School senior planning to attend Ball State University. One-time payment of about $250.

 Edgell Vocational Scholarship: For West Noble seniors entering a vocational program full-time. Must have a high school grade point average of 2.0 or above. Pays $500 one time for tuition.

Oliver & Eleanor Ellenbecker Education Scholarship: $2,500 per year for four years to a Noble County resident who will begin a four-year bachelor's program at an accredited college or university, majoring in education to become a teacher. Applicants must have lived in county at least one year.

Oliver & Eleanor Ellenbecker Previous Award Winner Scholarship: Given to a student who previously received a one-year or two-year scholarship administered by the Noble County Community Foundation. Pays $1,000 one time. The scholarship can be used toward any type of full-time post-secondary education, and can be applied for until post-secondary graduation. Applicant must have a current grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

William Wesley "Wes" & Amelia Frehse Memorial Scholarship: For the holder of a high school diploma who has been a resident of Noble County, will be attending Indiana University to study music or history and can demonstrate financial need. Pays $250 one time.

Jack R. and Maxine C. Frymier Scholars Award: A one-time payment of $1,000 for a Central Noble High School senior having at least a 3.2 grade point average and evidence of community involvement, and pursuing a career in the field of education.

Delbert & LaVon Graft Scholarship: For an East Noble High School senior or graduate pursuing a two-year or four-year degree in the fields of consumer and family sciences, agriculture or finance. Pays approximately $500 one time.

Lolita J. Hornett Memorial Nursing Scholarship: For a Noble County resident entering a program leading to a nursing degree as a freshman, with preference given to East Noble High School seniors and graduates. Must have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in high school. Pays $500 one time at completion of first semester.

Art & Jeanne Howard 4-H Scholarship: For any high school senior residing in Noble County who has excelled in 4-H and excelled academically and who will pursue any sort of post-secondary education, full-time or part-time. Extra essay required.

Alan Hutsell Scholarship: For a high school senior pursuing advanced education in emergency services involving fire, police and/or EMS. One-time payment of about $300.

Tony and Gertrude Kichler Scholarship: For students from the Merriam area (residents of either Noble or Green Townships in Noble County) who are pursuing college educations in music, medicine or religion. One-time payment of about $1,000.

Matthias "Matt" Kretler Scholarship for Tool & Die: A $500 one-time payment, paid after completion of the first semester of post-secondary education, for an East Noble or Central Noble high school senior pursuing a career in the tool and die field. Applicants must live in Noble County and have at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Pauline (McClish) Leaman Scholarship: For a West Noble High School senior entering a four-year college program to pursue a career in education, with an interest in math or a related area. Must have a high school grade point average of 2.0 or above along with financial need. Pays $250 one time.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship: Four years of full tuition and required fees awarded to two well-rounded high school seniors who reside in Noble County, will receive a diploma from an accredited Indiana high school by the end of June 2008, and will pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana. Requires community service and at least a 3.0 high school grade point average.

Timothy J. Martin Memorial Scholarship: For a West Noble High School senior who will pursue a post-secondary degree in education. Awards $500 one time.

News-Sun Journalism Scholarship: For Noble County high school seniors and college students pursuing a journalism career in newspapers, magazines, radio or television. There are no restrictions on how many times a student may receive the scholarship during his/her college career. Amount varies with interest rates, but usually about $500. Extra essay required.

Noble County Democrat Central Committee Scholarship: A few hundred dollars each for Noble County residents pursuing any sort of post-high-school education, with preference shown to 2008 high school graduates.

Noble County PRIDE Scholarship: $1,000 each for a Central, an East and a West Noble senior. Must be current, exemplary Noble County PRIDE members with high, active levels in prevention programs and community service, and going on to any type of full-time post-secondary education. Extra essay required.

Noble County Retired Teachers' Association Scholarship in Memory of Deceased Teachers: For a resident of the West Noble School District who will have a high school diploma or equivalent by the end of June, 2008, has need for assistance and is or will be enrolled in a certified 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-year Indiana post-high-school program (the award is given in alphabetical rotational distribution among the three school corporations of Noble County). Pays $250 one time.

Paul Pelikan Memorial Scholarship: For an East Noble High School senior or graduate who has demonstrated great effort to achieve and to overcome adversity, with preference given to educationally challenged students. Award of $4,500 is spread evenly over two semesters and is applicable toward any post-secondary education. Extra essay required.

Hal Prickett Memorial Scholarship: For West Noble High School seniors and graduates and Ligonier High School graduates who will be enrolled in full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university for the 2008-09 school year, and who have demonstrated a commitment of service to their community. Pays $1,000 one time. Extra essay required.

Hilda H. Rehwinkel Scholarship: An award of $250 for a female East Noble High School senior to pursue a career in nursing or a related health education field.

Louise Rex Scholarship: About $500 per year for four years to a West Noble High School senior who has excelled in English, has financial need and will pursue education at the college or university level. Preference will be given to students intending to major in English.

John E. and Joan E. Robinson Scholarship: Several hundred dollars each for Noble County residents pursuing any sort of post-high-school education.

Max & Elizabeth Roesler Memorial Scholarship: Two scholarships of about $1,250 each for Noble County residents who have not been enrolled in high school for at least one year and are pursuing a bachelor's degree, associate's degree or technical certificate on a part-time basis.

John and Mary Schermerhorn Memorial Scholarship: For a Noble County high school senior pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field, with financial need a consideration. One-time payment of about $250.

Fred & Mildred Seymoure (Young) Memorial Scholarship: One $250 scholarship for a Central Noble High School senior or graduate or a person living in the Albion area pursuing a BS or MS education degree for a teaching career.

Lauren K. Shields Scholarship: For a West Noble High School senior who has displayed good character and a strong commitment to the community, and who is pursuing any sort of post-high-school education. Pays $250 one time.

Nathan Shumaker Memorial Scholarship: For a student from Noble County in the second or subsequent year of post-high-school education who received some or all of K-12 schooling through home school or a Christian school. One-time payment of about $250.

Jonah W. Slater Memorial Scholarship: For a resident of central or eastern Noble County who is pursuing any sort of post-secondary education and has financial need. Pays $250 one time.

Russell Smith Music Scholarship: $1,000 for a West Noble senior pursuing advanced musical education.

Max Sneary, M.D. Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 one time for a high school senior from Noble County to pursue a career in the medical field, with preference given to East Noble applicants.

Joshua Stahl Memorial Scholarship: For a northeastern Indiana high school senior who will pursue four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, and who has been participating in cross country and/or track for at least two years. Pays $500 one time. Extra essay required.

Sylvan Springs Scholarship: A scholarship of about $1,500 for a Noble County resident over age 17 who has earned a high school diploma or will do so in the spring of 2008, has demonstrated strong community service, is pursuing a college or university degree and has at least a 3.0 high school or college grade point average.

Carol Ann Tieman Scholarship: $1,000 for a Central Noble senior who will attend a four-year college or university in Indiana to study elementary education and teach at the elementary school level.

Hazel Brown Truelove Scholarship: For a Central Noble senior who will pursue four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, and who has been participating in a musical program at Central Noble for at least two years. Pays $1,000 one time. Extra essay required.

Dr. David & Alvena VanMeter Scholarship: For Central Noble seniors entering a two-year or four-year college or vocational program as full-time students. Must have a high school grade point average of 2.0 or better. Amount varies, but on average will pay $400 one time.

Clarence & Marie Woolf Medical Scholarship: For an East Noble senior who will be attending a four-year bachelor's program to pursue a career in the medical field. Must have a high school grade average of 3.0 or better. Amount is for educational expenses only and varies with interest rates, but will be about $5,000 annually in each of four years. 

Trent Zuehsow Memorial Scholarship: One scholarship of at least $250 for an East Noble High School senior who has two or more years of show choir and theater participation at East Noble High School, and who will pursue a four-year or two-year college or university degree. Extra essay required.
