Summer 2007

Literacy Match
The Noble County Community Foundation and the Dekko Foundation are teaming up to offer $40,000 each in a matching gift opportunity through the end of 2008.

Between now and then every dollar donated to the LEAP of Noble County Endowment Fund will result in two additional dollars supporting literacy in Noble County, one from the Dekko Foundation that will go into a new Literacy Field of Interest Fund and one from the community foundation that will go into LEAP’s endowment. The field of interest fund will be held at the community foundation and used to make grants for a variety of literacy project ideas submitted by the public.

Field of Interest Match
Contributions to the Field of Interest Funds (Arts and Culture, Celebrate Diversity, Children’s Health, Civic Affairs, Education and Literacy) are part of a Noble County Community Foundation $1 for $1 match of donations from now until December 31, 2008.

A maximum of $5,000 per donation will be matched.

Contributions can be made payable to the Noble County Community Foundation and mailed to 1599 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Include a note in the memo section indicating the fund you are donating to.

Their Legacy Story— the gift of work . . .

George and Dorothy Lee Witwer were among the first to join the Noble Legacy Society. George grew up in South Bend and Dorothy grew up in many places. George settled in Noble County due to a job offer from the Kendallville News-Sun. They have lived in Noble County since 1962 and are also residents of Florida. George’s most memorable achievement in his life is being Kendallville “Man of the Year”. When asked what they enjoy most about living in Noble County George replied “the economic opportunity, a good place to raise children and the pleasant lifestyle Noble County has to offer.” George and Dorothy recently indicated to the Noble County Community Foundation their intent to leave a bequest to the community foundation, and established the George O. Witwer Fund in December 1991 as one of the first funds held by the foundation. This donor-advised fund supports non-profit organizations in Noble County. When asked “Why was it important for you to plan your gift and/or what are your hopes for the community by making this gift?”, George replied, “It was important because of our love for this county and the community foundation will use it proactively for the benefit of the county residents.” George and Dorothy also added they have admiration for the way the community foundation is being run and operated.

George and Dorothy remind us of the Gift of Work. He who loves his work never labors. They too realized that hard work became a habit and continues to serve as a true guiding principal in their lives, and now leisure has become a reward as they enjoy the winter months in sunny Florida. George and Dorothy are pictured above with their granddaughter Sally during a visit to Martha’s Vineyard.
