Introduction
The Celebrate Diversity Project is a project
through Community Initiatives, Inc., the supporting organization of
the Noble County Community Foundation Inc., was awarded a
Lilly Endowment Community Alliances to Promote Education (C.A.P.E.)
grant. Among many new initiatives, the Celebrate Diversity Project
offers non-competitive grants promoting cultural awareness throughout
Noble County.
Mission
The Celebrate Diversity Project mission is to
offer and support culturally related programs and services that enrich
the lives of the residents of Noble County.
Vision
The Celebrate Diversity Project vision is a
community that discourages prejudice and fear by encouraging language
and communication skills, fostering economic well-being and inspiring
education, lifelong learning and community involvement.
Goals
- Organizations, businesses and individuals will
provide creative solutions to issues revolving around living in a
diverse society.
- The community will benefit from programs and
services that enrich the lives of Noble County residents while
decreasing prejudice and fear related to cultural differences.
Grants are available to help schools, libraries,
businesses, organizations, and government & service agencies to
obtain:
- Educational and Informational Materials

Translation of documents & signage (examples: employment,
personal growth, health & safety, financial aid, homeownership, & fair
housing)
- Language literacy Classes
-
GED, ESL, citizenship, & second language
- Cultural Enrichment Activities
-
Allow Noble County libraries and schools to coordinate cultural
enrichment activities
-
Enable teachers serving Noble County students to apply for
non-competitive grants
-
Increase the opportunity for students to experience, appreciate
and understand other cultures
Availability of Funds
Funding
awards are for a one-year period. Maximum award: $2000
Distribution of
Funds
- Award decisions are released approximately 30
days after grant deadline.
- A grant agreement/contract must be signed and
returned to the Celebrate Diversity Program Director within 15 days
from date of grant award notification.
- Funds are generally distributed within 30 days
of receipt of grant agreement/contract.
- Any alteration or revision of original
proposed use of funds must receive prior approval from Celebrate
Diversity Project.
- A Final Report form must be completed at the
end of your grant year and submitted with copies of expenses i.e.
receipts, purchase orders, etc.
- Funds not utilized for proposed project must
be returned to Noble County Community Foundation/Celebrate Diversity
Project unless prior approval is received to extend use of funds.
Evaluation of Proposals
- The Celebrate Diversity Project will only
consider not-for-profit projects that:

Promote cooperation among organizations without duplicating
services

Promote volunteer involvement
-
Demonstrate practical approaches to current community issues
-
Enhance or improve an organization's self-sufficiency and
effectiveness
-
Emphasize prevention
-
Promote cultural awareness among people of any age in Noble
County
- Favorable consideration will be given to
projects that:

Affect a broad segment of the population
-
Are clearly replicable pilot programs
-
Have a sustainability plan
-
Serve people whose needs are not being met by existing services
and that encourage independence
-
Move the community to a higher cultural awareness
- Grants will not be awarded to support:
-
Multi-year funding
-
Research
-
Uniforms and performance apparel
-
Travel/transportation
-
Salaries
-
Meals/food
- Grants will not be used under any
circumstances to support:
-
Segregation programs
-
Projects that don't serve residents of Noble County
-
Political/Lobbying purposes
-
Underwriting for fundraising events
-
Projects not related to the promotion of cultural awareness

proposal, not to exceed three pages, which includes:

- Note: Teachers must have a signature from
their school corporation’s central office
Proposals should
include the following:
- The need for and importance of this project
and the number of people affected by this project.
- Brief description of your project and how it
pertains to cultural diversity awareness.
- How do you hope the community will benefit
from the project?
- Description of past projects that Celebrate
Diversity Project has funded for you and the year received.
- Timeline for project.
- A detailed budget for the amount requested,
with justification. Budgets must include at minimum a 25% dollar
match. Match may include: Other committed or applied for funding for
project, organizational cash contribution, in-kind services and
materials.
- 501(c)3 organizations must attach a copy of
IRS Non-Profit Status Notification letter.
- Applicants awarded a grant are required to
send a representative (s) to the Taste of Noble County Ethnic
Festival to showcase their project. Representative may be teachers,
students, parents, or other volunteers who have been involved with
the project.
- All applications must be typed and received on
or before the grant deadline date.

- After your request has been received, a
representative of the Celebrate Diversity Project requesting a site
visit or additional information may contact you. Decisions are made
approximately 30 days after the deadline and you will be contacted
about the Board's decision.
